Dvla insurance fine

Options
Hello

Just looking for a bit of advice on a dvla £100 fine.

My insurance recently lapsed and I reinsured my vehicle I then got a phone call from arnold Clark offering me a new car so I went down and agreed to buy and rang my insurance company to cancel my insurance on the 14th April at midnight this was the day I was picking my new car up I then P/Xd my old car with arnold Clark but had lost the registration document and couldn't send off new keepers details so I rang the dvla and ordered one at a cost of £25 this was to take 7-10 days to arrive this will be on their system. Anyway I went on holiday and the salesman came round for the new registration document and collected it off my mum and he sent new keepers details off. Fast forward until today and I have a letter come through saying I have a £100 fine for failing to insure my vehicle on the 16th of April but I was waiting for my registration documents to come through which I can't afford to pay.

I'd be very grateful if somebody would help me out on this matter

Thank you

Need a timescale here. Your insurance lapsed then you reinsured. Actual dates or how long between the dates?

If the vehicle is not insured you needed to SORN it.

You don't need any registration document in order to insure a vehicle - so I'm unclear why you waited.

If there is a gap in the dates (and you've not declared SORN) they hit you with the charge and from what I've seen, it's a fully automated process. I'm just not clear if there is any 'grace' period they turn a blind eye to (if at all).

You would have had a warning letter first before the fine, my mum had one, SORNED online, tax disc back for refund and no fine.

How do you know the salesman sent off the yellow section? I don't trust them to do it.

I wasn't insuring the car again as I was part exchanging it to arnold Clark but I was waiting for the v5 for them to send off as the new keeper
