Felling an oak tree for wood

Hi all
I have a medium sized oak tree in my garden which I want to get rid of because it's getting very close to the house and also lifting up patio slabs.
Is hiring a tree surgeon the only way or would a timber yard be interested?
Is the value of the wood worth the expense?
It does not have a tree preservation order (TPO) on it.
Ideas please?
Thanks in advance.

Oak is a good firewood but needs 2 years(+) seasoning, but the cost to the final consumer is mainly in the labour of felling, bucking and splitting. I think any contribution from that route may be negligible when the labour costs are taken into account.0

Might be worth looking for local woodcraft or wood turning groups, sure the wood would be of great use to craft people to make bowls and candlesticks etc from! Might pay good money

Thanks guys
The local arborist/tree surgeons aren't being very helpful. Seems like they don't really need or want to even come look at it. Especially when I let on that I would want to keep the wood.
Will keep trying!0 -
Contact your local woodwork club and they will arrange for it taking down as they do like it done in a certain way so they can get the bowl of the tree.Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0
