Should there be an RSJ

Hi, I moved into my house almost 30 years ago. The house originally had a wall between the stairs and the living room (no hallway) which the previous occupants had removed.
We thought nothing of it until recently we have noticed the living room ceiling is bowing slightly and are starting to think an RSJ should have been put in place when the wall was knocked out. I'm now worried about this but don't know where to start trying to sort out whether there should be an RSJ there and how to go about getting one put in if needed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need a surveyors opinion. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

You need a QS or a Structural Engineer to have a look at it. They will determine if you need an RSJ and, if you do, provide a drawing to show how it should be located. They'll probably charge you about £500 and save you several grey hairs. You had me at your proper use of "you're".0
