Maintenance Company Cowboys

Hope some helpful chappy is able to help me out here!

I moved into a flat last November, and when we moved we were fully aware that as a leasehold, there would be maintenance charges involved. The only thing is, we dont feel that the company are efficiently doing the work they are charging us for, and we've been told on several occassions that our building is not under their control, so they wont do anything for us (but are quick enough to ask for our money)

Is there an independent company I can complain to about these (the company is 'Peverel OM' BTW) as I dont feel i'll get a proper reply from them? I will be writing to their head office, but would also love to cc: an independent body that might regulate this sort of stuff. I'm a bit sick of them to be honest and I dont think they'll do anything unless properly told to!

Thanks to anyone able to help!!

Their website states "[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]We are members of, and abide by the Association of Residential Managing Agents code of practice."

    Therefore see

Don't know what they will be able to do but I'm sure they will advise.

  • Thanks Peter.

I couldnt get on their web site behind my works firewall (so dont think i was being lazy/flippant;) ) but that seems to be a great bet! Mind you, I wonder how 'impartial' they would be! I guess they'd be better than nothing!

Cheers for that, i'll give them a try!

Take charge of your own management by taking your legal "Right to Manage"

    Info here http://www.lease-advice.org/rtmframe.htm

It costs £100 per flat or a minimum of £500 for the block if there are less than five flats. It's very simple as the company do it all for you, you just need to fill in the initial form. Takes 5 or 6 months to go through and at the end of that time you can either manage the buildings yourselves or employ your own agent.

  • WOW!!!

Thanks a lot Doozergirl! Stupid works firewall has again denied me access but will definitely check this out later! I'm so annoyed at these muppets, and after typing peverel into the search, i notice a lot of other people are equally annoyed at the stupid, and unjustified prices this company charge!

This is definitely something else to consider! I hate companies like this who can charge what they like as they have a monopoly! I might try to fight them a bit, at least see what they say, but as usual I dont expect it'll do any good!!
