No Keys on Completion

i would echo what has been said before, get yourself to B&Q now and change all the locks. I am no diy expert by a long chalk, but took me, after looking at a youtube vid, 10 minutes to change front, back, and patio doors. All you need is a new lock, and a screwdriver or allen key0

It is a routine matter for new owners to change the locks, so this is what you should do.0

Get the locks changed as a matter of course, and with regards to compensation etc i would just speak to your solicitor.
What compensation - OP actually did have a key so could easily have chosen to move in on completion. Seller probably thought they were handing over a spare set since they had already given one set to OP.
Chalk it up to FTB's experience.0 -
Change the locks as soon as the shops open tomorrow. As others have said, I'd do that as a matter of course with a property.
I'd certainly sent a letter of complaint (registered) to the EA, highlighting their appalling slap-dash manner in saying everything was OK when they didn't actually have the keys. I'd also inform your solicitor that this EA can't be trusted.
>On arriving at the agents office to get the keys I was told that they did not have them<
I'd have been onto my solicitor PDQ to get the money back from the client's solicitor who should have been holding it in their client account0 -
I echo everyone else. Always change the locks. Not just the front door, but all of them. Most locks are relatively easy, and there are internet suppliers who'll send new barrels/locks to whatever specification you want.
Just make sure you order the right size /specification.
Remember the previous owner's cleaner still has a set of keys,
As does that contractor they used to fix the bathroo plumbing.
and their daughter's boyfriend. But don't worry, he won't break in for a few months yet as he's still banged up........0 -
you were given a key in advance of completion.
so your complaint is that you didn't get all the keys on completion
unless there was a door you could not open because of this, then it's a fairly trivial complaint0 -

Copy and paste above website to see HIGH security barrel.
You need to take out old barrel and measure up size then order on ebay or other places B&Q, wickes, etc
Utube video will show how to do this0
