Hi
We are at present receiving full housing benefit(Social housing).
I am thinking of taking Mr Heseltines advice, and getting on my bike, to Northamptonshire......Can anybody advise as to what housing benefit we would receive(The rented houses in Northampton are approx. £700 a month)
Thx

Thankyou both
very helpful

Keep in mind that you would need to have a deposit and usually one month's rent in advance, plus many landlords are unwilling to let to those heavily reliant on benefits.0

Ok thx.
That £99 .....is that per week per person, or per week per 2 people?
Thx.0 -

It was Norman Tebbit and it was about getting on your bike to find work. Good luck in you new job. These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.0 -
Ok

Have you considered a mutual exchange/swap? You have security of tenure as a social housing tenant while as a private tenant, you have the potential of not getting your tenancy agremeent renewed (and they are mainly 6 months in duration).
Local Housing Allowance rates (which calculates HB in the private sector) are capped at the lowest third of market rents so are the bottom third cheapest properties and the majority of landlords do not accept HB claimants.
Do social housing landlords in the new area accept applications to transfer or award any higher priority if you move to take up a job? I don't know the position on this. Originally social housing landlords did their best not to accept any transfers but I know the government didn't like the way that prevented tenants from seeking work elsewhere, I just don't know if the govt made them change their allocation policies which used to insist on a local connection.0
