Please help - bought item, sent by courier, not received.

Options
I bought an item for £40 (free postage), paid with paypal last tuesday. Item has not arrived, so I emailed the seller. First he says it was sent on Friday by Hermes, then he says no, it was sent on the 27th (last Tuesday). I asked for tracking number and the one he gave me just says "order generated" on the 28th May. He says on his end it says it is with the courier. So presuming what he sees is right it has been with the courier for almost a week.

I live in a big block of flats and Hermes are very unreliable and leave things in the communal hallway or things just don't turn up. I cannot afford to lose this money and I have a horrible feeling that the package is not going to turn up and the seller isn't really being that helpful.

If I had known it was being sent by Hermes I wouldn't have bought it.

What should/can I do?

Thanks.

Problem with Hermes its the cheapest UK Courier for the General Public - £2.32 + VAT under 1kg.

If it only says "Order Generated" it means he has not yet posted it / dropped it off at the Parcelshop & is duping you [most likely not in stock] by giving you a tracking number & then delaying despatch.

Ask him again to confirm it's been despatch, stating the tracking only says "Order Generated", meaning the courier has not collected it or its not been dropped off & you will open a "Item Not Received" case if he does not reply

    Tracking normally states;
    Parcel collected by myHermes
29/04/2014 10:31 Dropped off at the ParcelShop
29/04/2014 14:05 Received at the sender's local depot
On its way to the courier

30/04/2014 13:51 Sorted at national hub
    30/04/2014 23:58 Received at recipient's local depot
01/05/2014 04:48 In transit to the recipient's local courier
With the courier to be delivered
01/05/2014 04:48 Out with the recipient's local courier for delivery
01/05/2014 08:39 Received by the recipient's local courier
    Delivered
01/05/2014 12:01 Delivered - signature received from household member

Maybe give it a few more days and then ask again. If tracking still shows no delivery and no update you may need to do an INR to get your money back.

I'd wait a few more days yet though.

Copy the tracking number from Ebay and type it directly into MyHermes and I find the Hermes tracking doesn't integrate properly.

If it was paid Tuesday it's 3 full working days and there has been a bank holiday too.

bxboards - He sent me the tracking number after I asked for it, it wasn't on the ebay page for the item.

I've asked him for more information on his end but it is a bit odd that he is seeing something completely different to what I am seeing. I'm more worried that Hermes do have it and will just leave it somewhere in the communal area. Last time they put "left in secure location" but didn't specify where and it was nowhere to be found. Luckily I had bought from a supermarket so they refunded me but would I get a refund from paypal if I do an INR in such a situation where Hermes just dump it somewhere in the block and state it has been delivered? Hermes are notoriously unreliable.

I can't see the point is worrying about something that may or may not happen as it's out of your hands, so why stress?

If the item isn't showing as delivered in a few days, then make a claim with Ebay. Don't make a claim if the item is showing as delivered, or you'll lose however. You'll need to get the seller onside in that case.

I've just checked myherpes and now it is suddenly saying "customer sent from parcelshop" and "collected from parcelshop" with today's date. Is this really dodgy?

Maybe they have only just posted it. Is it a new item? Waiting for delivery themselves?

I opened a INR case a while back, Contacted then about 3 weeks after i bought it, They forgot to post it. Then still no item they claim to have been ill.
But managed to buy and sell other stuff and even collect stuff in person.
They no reply to my messages. Opened case on day 44. No response.

Seller posted it the day after paypal refunded me. It was in an appalling condition wrapped, Well not even wrapped in a bin liner with the items
rattling around inside. They were filthy also.
I chucked them behind the shed seller never got back to me. So the items are still there.

Yes, it is a product of a major store that has been discontinued and they are selling it for 3/4 of the store price. It is apparently packaged and new.

    It was picked up today.

I'd suggest if you have issues with couriers leaving items in non secure areas you either get items delivered to a more secure friends or relative's address, or ensure you use someone who dispatches via Royal Mail where items can be collected from a sorting office if they can't be left.

Whilst it is the seller's responsibilty to get items to you safely, I don't think it's very fair if they're being left in a non secure area as it is the seller who ends up losing out financially.

I agree. If I had known it was being sent by Herpes I wouldn't have bought it. Only found that out when I chased up the item.
