Replacement Heating System Quote

Hi,

My heating system is over 30 years old and I am planning on replacing it this summer; everything, inc piping etc, except 2 radiators (bathroom rail and cast iron one in the hall)

I have received a quote from a local company for £3970 incVAT for:
- Worcester 29CDI Classic
- Worcester Horizontal Flue
- Worcester FR110 Programmable Room Thermostat
- 6 StelRad Compact Radiators with TRVs
- Reconnect towel rail and cast iron radiator with new valves
- 22mm Copper Tube
- 15mm Copper Tube
- Carbon Monoxide Alarm (Can remove this as already have one)
- Fernox TF1 Compact Filter
- Chemical Flush
- Removal and Disposal of Existing Boiler

I have been trying for the last 1.5months to get heating engineers to engage but its hard...excessively hard. Guess they have lots of work on. Of the 3 that have actually been out, only this one (came last week) has submitted their quote. The other two were over a month ago and haven't bothered.

So, given this is essentially a full system replacement with a bit of extra work with keeping two of the existing radiators, does the price seem reasonable ?

Thanks,
-Robert

  • The boiler costs £1k. The rads and all the other bits must be £400-£500. Excluding the Vat that is £3.3k. So £1500-£1800 on the labour. It might be a little high, but at least it isn't British gas rip off high.

I would check their credentials - gas safe, check a ref, but in the end, if you are struggling to find someone you might not have a lot of choice!
  • Thanks for your input.
I am generally happy enough to pay a bit more if I feel I get something out of it...and in this case that something may be avoiding further hassle trying to get more people to estimate.

The company itself is legit and gets - mostly - good feedback so given it's not unreasonably high I reckon I'll just progress and get it moving before another month passes.

    Thanks,
    -Robert

I just had a visit yesterday from a guy from Home Select Heating, based in Glasgow but the survey/sales guy is local to you in Ayr, I'm in Ardrossan. I got them through Ratedpeople dot com after putting in details of a new bathroom, but they do heating to, gave me a very very good price for a replacement boiler and not much extra for an upgrade to the next level of boiler.

Just google them for the number or PM and i'll give you the guys details. I haven't used them yet still waiting on one more quote, but all the reviews are good on Rated People and didn't find anything bad on a google search.
Thanks to all the competition posters.
