In a real mess and think in about doing a DMP

Hopefully this will ease your mind. I started with stepchange and got all the way to signing the line when I thought I might just try this myself first. So I called around my debtors and spoke to them directly. One thing I found out was that they ALL were really easy to deal with. At the end of the day, both you and your debtors want the same thing - the debt paid off, so they will try and work with you rather than against you.
What I found was they all agreed to token payments, they were willing to enter into an agreement and it was all so much easier than I thought. I ended up by not going with stepchange, not because they are not good but because I didn't really need to. So if there will be negative consequences from your employer, you may be able to do your own DMP without having to tell your employer. Just a thought, hope it works out for you!Debt as of March 2018, £794 rent arrears £4273.7 debt, £900.70 in pay day loans, total £5968.40 . Total debt today £5968.40

Hi thank you for this.
I tried a few months ago to do such a thing, but I know I need help and support so don't think I should try to go it alone.
So I've just signed along the dotted line. Eek.~~I am debt free~~0 -
Horses for courses TTDI

I've been with SC for close to a year now and at some point (probably half way) I intend to go self managed.
I'm perfectly happy speaking with creditors but initially wanted that extra "Oomph" that SC have to make sure they all agreed LOL
Everybody agreed (or at least didn't object and have been accepting payments) and barring my own problems (reduced income) it's been a virtually stress free experience

"Stress free"?
Sorry I have no idea what that could possibly mean... ;-)
Daft, I feel better just for having taken some sort of action other than just applying for more loans and cards to pay those shouting loudest.
I hope it gets set up ok~~I am debt free~~0 -
Hi Timetodoit,
Congratulations.
Regardless of what you might think today or tomorrow, you have just made the best decision of your life.
The decision to enter a DMP is a difficult one but as I posted on my thread, don't be afraid to use them if it's the only way out.
If you read my thread, it sounds as though we are very similar, struggling along until it got so bad that you HAD to act.
Well done, from now on it does get easier and though it may be some time before you are debt free, at least you will know when that is.
Good luck and if you ever want some support, send me a message.
It's not all a bed of roses but you've done the hardest part.0 -
Thank you whipster

I completely understand about the job thing (see my diary!) But honestly, can you talk to your employers?
Mine were understanding and want me to succeed at my job and I have clearly shown that I am trying my best to clear everything. I have to declare issues but that just means I am more closely monitored than other people and that I got a MASSIVE kick up the *** when I had to 'open up' about my issues. I knew I had to do something about it when I had to talk to my employer!
