Paid off defaulted account - 1 year later, still showing as 'open'?

About 2 years ago I went through a rough patch and got 3 defaults;

- Capital One
- A stupid PDL
- Smile Bank (Co-operative)

After managing to get some stability (health wise) and getting back to employment, all 3 debts were paid off in full through relevant Debt Collection Agency's, with the latest being in August last year.

In the next 8 months or so I'll be moving in with my partner, and finding a flat. Needless to say, right now I'm trying to get my credit file as decent as I can in preparation for any searches that will be done. (I now have a very good income, so I'm beginning to save; so I can avoid any future issues should I relapse, but I know that savings wont account for anything unfortunately!)

However, I've just checked my credit report on Noddle - and realised that the Co-operative Account has still been reporting as 'Open'; despite paying it off a year ago. Whereas the others are still defaults - but listed as closed (and satisfied). Am I right in saying this one shouldn't be reporting as open?! :eek:

    Should be listed as Satisfied. I'd contact Co-Op and tell them about it. I'd also check your statutory £2 credit report from Equifax and Experian too. You can then tell each CRA that this information is incorrect and they'll investigate it.
    Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

    ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.

    What is most relevant is the remaining balance and not the status but I admit that is a matter of confusion for most people.

    If you think that a lender is reporting incorrectly you have two available courses of action: (1) Complain to the CRA. In the case that an entry is corrected that will likely be transmitted to the other CRAs and likewise corrected there. (2) Complain to the lender and hope that they (a) don't ignore it and (b) don't take months to put it right if at all.

    Complaint to coop in writing.

    You renting or buying? Rental checks don't see defaults.
