Advice me please

I am new in the UK with no credit history. All I have is a UK bank account.

What can I do to build my credit score so that I can apply for credit cards successfully etc.? Currently nobody accepts me including poor credit score companies even though I don't have a score to begin with.

Cheers!

    1. The longer you've been here the easier it becomes.
    2. Pay all your bills on time.
    3. Register to vote (if entitled to).
    4. Continue working for the same employer.
    5. Stay at the same address.
    6. Manage your banking relationship well.

You have a bank account so the chances are that it's on your file at the CRAs so you've made a start on building your credit file. Sign up at noddle.co.uk for free to get a basic credit report. At this stage I'd say it's not necessary to sign up at Equifax or Experian.

How many applications for credit have you done in the last six months? If that's 3 - 4 stop now and wait six months and then do just one application and if that's refused wait another six months.

Two credit companies which are known to be easier than others are jdwilliams.co.uk and vanquis.co.uk . A little harder to get is aquacard.co.uk but you might scrape through with a low credit limit.

A mobile phone contract is good and you're more likely to get it if you just get the SIM card on monthly contract and not a phone. But buy a used phone first so you know which size SIM card you need.

Practically any company which reports to the CRAs is good.

Lastly, yes being on the Electoral Roll is an advantage but if you're a foreign national lenders wouldn't expect you to be on it.

None of the major banks will touch you for credit cards until you have been resident for 3 years.
Being on the electoral roll and not having any black marks will help you ie pay your bills on time.

A store card can help too and is usually easier to get than a credit card.
And a sim-only mobile contact as mentioned above.
