Well, tomorrows the day

Hi to all,
As much as people don't know me, or my story, I felt it appropriate to post this on here today.

6 years ago I was in debt. I knew it, I think my partner knew it and my parents certainly knew something was wrong.
Did I tell them? Did I beck.
I was scared, frightened of what they might say, ashamed that their offspring could get themselves in that trouble when they had a good upbringing and good job.

The problem was I was keeping up with the Jones so to speak, or friends in my case.
They had nice holidays, I had to have the same.
Etc Etc

Well, 2 years later and I was in over my head.
I was in debt that I couldn't pay and it was time for admissions.

If I had done it 2 years earlier it would have been easier. It wasn't, I was an idiot.

So, you may ask, why post tonight.
Well, after the past 6 years of pain, denial, admission and lots and lots of tears, tomorrow I am debt free. I owe nobody nothing. Zilch. Nada.

And you know what it feels absolutely fantastic.

I was one of those who came on this website, looked at the posts and thought, no, not me, I'm fine. Well, I wasn't.

So, for anybody out there who is in the same position as I was six years ago I would just like to give this piece of advice.

Talk.
Talk to your partner
Talk to your family
Talk to your friends if you need to
Most importantly talk to people who can help.

Don't be too proud to ask for help.
I was and it nearly destroyed me.

Yes, I still have a default with a year to run, but so what that will soon be sorted and then it's a case of never letting this happen again.

I told my friends. I had to.
They had better jobs than me and earnt more money.
Some of them laughed, they're no longer classed as friends.
2 really important people listened and helped, and you know what changed their lifestyles too.

So, tomorrow is celebration night.
No, not a fancy restaurant or pub.
They are coming to my house, exactly as we have done for the last 2 years.

If you are still reading, then thankyou.
And if just 1 person reads this and it makes a difference then it was worth it.

Good luck to all.

:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

    Thanks whitewing.

And apologies, as I should have also mentioned the hundreds of posts that I read on this website that eventually made me realise that I had to do something.

Spend 10 minutes looking at everyone else's stories and yours won't seem so bad after all.

  • Congrats on the huge achievement. Getting rid of those ostentatious so called 'friends' was truly a blessing in disguise for you. I've got £1200 worth of debt. Hopefully I will be able to get rid of this within the next six months. My weakness is technology. Buying gadgets, camera, video stuff. You have given me inspiration.
  • What a great post, very inspiring.

I currently have someone texting me asking me on a day out... I just said no and said i cant afford to. It was hard but your right!!
