After signing up with them you provide your opening meter reading and the next time you provide them with a meter reading is after 12 months?

So you could be overpaying or underpaying and end up with a nasty surprise after 12 months??

What kind of an idiot runs a gas company like this?

What's wrong with that? Know your usage, work out its cost, pay for that for a year. Monitor your meter and you decide how to budget if there is a difference - save up over the year or pay a different amount next year. Preferable to having an argument with a computer change you disagree with every quarter or more often.

(As far as I can see they have a freephone number you can use to request a new instalment on request. (Well, an increase would be processed on request.))

Pardon me for missing out 'likely'. Sort of assumed in context. Most people know their probable consumption.

If you would rather pay £600 than £520 (for an average consumption) then go ahead - there are no termination penalties you can switch and pay for those unnecessary services if you like.

I quite like the daligas way. I never like the direct debit payments especially with companies which seem to want me to be in credit with them the whole year round. I'd prefer to pay bill quarterly. So I just think of it as paying a fixed amount monthly and pay difference at end of the year. From my own meter readings I can calculate if I'm under or over paying. Also they were far cheaper and anyone else for me. I've rung them once to change direct debit details and they took the information and they actioned it quickly.

I moved my gas to Dali last year as both their standing charge and unit charge were cheaper than my existing supplier. They asked ME how much I was likely to use, so I simply took the previous years consumption as a guide and gave them that number. As it happens, we had a milder Winter so I never used as much, but it could have gone either way. I'm deliberatly letting my account build up credit now ready for next Winter, so regardless of what the weather does I don't have to give heating a second thought, it's paid for.

The variability of cooking makes little to no difference to your overall consumption, whereas a fortnight of sub zero temperatures will.

Oh - forgot to say, if you are worried about billing accuracy over the year (I am not as I monitor it myself and know where I stand) then you can submit readings on their web portal any time you like. No need to call, no need to email.

Good heavens. You are not an MSc from Imperial College, are you? A guy who just graduated got offered a job with an annual salary, and he asked me, do they pay you at the beginning or the end of the year? Do I have to borrow some money to live on if I don't get paid for a year?
