Continued identity fraud

Hi all,

My ex-wife has made many attempts (some successful, others not) to take out credit in my name. This has resulted in a CCJ that I only discovered 4 years after it had be implemented and being pursued for a few thousand pounds of debt. These loans have been taken out at the old family home (where I moved out in 2000 and have been off the electoral since the end of 2000 at that address).

I have noticed that she has once again attempted to take out a loan in my name earlier this year (I discovered this by checking my credit report), and I also have another bank attempting to contact me so assume this is just more of the same.

I am now registered with CIFAS, which I hope will help, as these attempts continue. Technically as the crime is not committed against me and the loan companies do not wish to pursue her she seems to be able to continue without any consequences, leaving me to clean up the mess left behind. :(

Anyone have any advice how I can stop these continued attempts (this has now been going on for over 5 years).

Police would be my next port of call. Why have you only now got a cifas registration if she's been doing it for 5 years?

Have you applied to have the ccj set aside?
Have you written to the 3 credit agencies, disputing the dodgy debts?
Have you written to the creditors who are advising the credit reference agencies and let them know it is fraud?

It has been reported to the police, but as the crime(s) have not been committed against me it is not up to me to push for prosecution. So no action has been taken in these cases.

This has only just been done because my addresses were not linked. However once they were linked (by a company chasing some of the debts) then the extent of the whole thing started to become evident and CIFAS registration was made.

Again, the police have said that the crime was not committed against me and I am only a witness if they decide to prosecut.e - which they do not seem willing to do

The CCJ has now expired. I was advised that I would need to get a barrister to ask for the CCJ to be set aside and that I would have to fund this myself with no chance of ever getting the money back.

All the credit agencies have been informed and, with various levels of success, the outstanding debts removed from my file. I am still fighting with one agency over one debt, but getting there. In doing this I have spoken to the companies who have been involved and most have been very helpful in getting the matters resolved. I have even spoken to companies as soon as I see a new credit search on my record. I will be having this conversation with the Bank Of Ireland tomorrow.

What ever I do the attempts still continue (and some lenders are not so good as doing the credit checks).
