Help with Halifax PPI - claim firm or not??

Have received Lett from Halifax today saying we may have been mis-sold PPI. It states they have reviewed sales processes and we may have suffered a financial loss as a result. Did not think we had ever taken ANY ppi at any time ever, but have investigated and it turns out it was to do with a home imp loan for in excess of 15k which ran alongside our mort from May 2003 to June 2007. Cant find original paperwork at the moment, but because they brought it to OUR attention rather than us request it, will they not maybe try to pay a lesser amount rather than if we ask a PPI claim firm to claim for us. Any advice please....

The redress method is defined. They will pay you what they need to pay you. no more, no less.
A claims company will just take a third to nearly a half if you use them and it would be pointless as Halifax have already told you they have found an issue.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thanks for reply, but should I perhaps put in my own claim separately rather than use the Halifax questionnaire or will they still only pay what they think they should pay and would I be able to dispute the payment if I felt it was unfair?0

Whatever you do you will only ever receive a refund of the amount you actually paid. You cannot increase the payment offered in any way, all you can do is ensure you provide them with a robust complaint.karencupcake01 wrote: »Thanks for reply, but should I perhaps put in my own claim separately rather than use the Halifax questionnaire
You can dispute any offer made to you, but only if you have documentary proof that you paid more than they might offer if your complaint is upheld.
PPI redress is defined, it's not somehow negotiable.0 -
Claim firms do not have special powers to complain any differently to what you would do.
A form is a form, it doesn't matter whether you use Halifaxs' or you use the template here.
These letters are going to anyone who had PPI because they want to start a timebar
You need to win your complaint to get any redress, and if you do, it's a defined amount, and you can't haggle unless you can prove they are offering less than you paid. To do that, you send a SAR and £10 to see what info is left.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Karen, the template / form on this site and the Halifax form are the same , so go ahead and fill it in with the details of why you feel you were mis sold etc0
