£30-ish for a non-Apple battery and lots of screws to remove if you do it yourself.

If there was a "budget" Macbook Air worth between £399-£499 then i would jump right in.

I must admit that despite very good specs and a fast fibre broadband i didn't liked the Yoga 2 as a Windows PC simply because of the slow updates which no one seems to explain or know why. Even after a month i am still scratching my head. And even say i bought a £599 or a £799 Windows machine with "slightly" better specs again would there be a guarantee that it would not take 4 hours IN TOTAL for the initial setup?

The funny thing is my wife's Asus Windows 8 laptop which i bought for her months before the Yoga 2 and has slightly inferior specs also took around 4 hours for the initial setup. So, what's going on?

have a look at the refurbished macbook airs on the apple website they are not far off that now !!

A Mac developed a fault after 2 years and it's expensive to fix. That's unheard of.
Are you sure it's not in your head? Those things are indestructible.

What is happening during this four hour setup? I've set up a variety of Windows 8 machines and out of the box even the lowest performance devices have taken around five to ten minutes to setup - choose machine name, choose MS account, wireless network and which updates settings you want then it's ready to go. AV is enabled by default and updates are installed in the background, manufacturers tend to add Flash, java, Adobe reader etc. but if they haven't they don't take long to install and other operating systems will take time to install additional non-standard components as well. If anything I find Windows 8 quicker as it automatically copies the settings from my other Win8 machines when I sign in initially, even installing the OS from scratch it's ready to go in under two hours.

Depending on your internet speed, the Win 8.1 update could take a long time to download.

It really depends what you are wanting to use the laptop for, are you going to be travelling around a lot? What sort of RAM and processor will you need? What sort of functionality do you need?
