carers question...
I have a dla claim processing for my 3 year old still with dm ... I had a succesfull claim in September for my 6 year old and I had never thought about carers until I had been reading that it would be fine (after being told by a friend that my tax credits would go down alot) so I applied on line last night as a carer for my 6 year old I put on the claim date as the date he was awarded in sept is it only the 3 months that they back date? also I don't work but my husband does ,,, does that mean I wont be able to get it? .... another question if they do award me carers and it is backdated 3 months will the tax credits sting me with an overpayment? so confused kinda scared that maybe I shouldn't have applied

Carers allowance is based on your income. (and meets the other criteria) Whether your husband works or not, is irrelevant.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

CA should not cause an overpayment with tax credits - infact you may be due more CTC as there is a disability element of £3,100 this year & if severely disabled a further £1,255 on top. Of course there might be some tapering involved as it depends on total joint income from jobs worked. So do tell them. If you rent & get help with that & council tax, there may be further help due. Not sure if they can back date to last years award or not - if you've not renewed yet tell them now.0

You should get an extra amount of child tax credit for having a severely disabled child in receipt of DLA or for two children on DLA. Carers allowance is counted as income to the overall award of tax credits. But as stated above your husbands income has no bearing on your entitlement to CA.
