no idea what to do

hi new to forum and need help, I received a letter this morning from my bank telling me I took out ppi in the past, I new about it but wasn't sure what to do.The letter says I have until 10h June to send form back to claim that is only 10 days so in a panic cos even though I've read all pages in letter I am confused and I do not understand what I have to do there are forms to fill in but I no longer have details or account numbers so can anyone please advise how I fill in forms and cos of this 10 day deadline I feel backed into a corner, chrissylou.

    They have sent you an invitation to complain if you have reason for complaint.

    ignore the 10 day deadline. you actually have 3 years from the date of that letter. No need to be confused. You just give your reasons for complaint and confirm your circumstances. You dont need account numbers as they have all that from the reference on the letter.

  • Thank for reply, does being self employed at the time with mortgage and large loan make a difference cos at time we stressed that we didn't think it would apply to us but was still advised to take out ppi on both and this was quite a number of years ago.

    Self employed can work well with some types of loan and credit card PPI but not with Mortgage PPI. The vast majority of MPPI plans cover self employed.

    Most MPPI complaints fail (both at lender and FOS). The FSA also recognised fewer issues with MPPI and today it is one of only two types of PPI that are still retailed. The main reasons why most MPPI complaints fail is that it tends to be a higher quality product than loan or credit card PPI. It is standalone and not added to the debt and is covering a major secured long term debt with lifestyle changing consequences if it goes unpaid.
