What bleachy powder are you using?

Whichever one is on offer. :D Persil, ariel lidl, surf, aldi. I think (almost) all the "big box" powders contain bleach, and (almost) none of the liquids and gels do.

Presumably, these will be anti bacterial at a low temperature?

Goodness frugalsod, you've just reminded me that my mother used to say that leaving washing on the line (outside) helped get it clean and fragrant ! but she also used to boil a lot of things in a vast cauldron thing - hankies, pants, flannels, teatowels etc. I suppose some of the problem is all the 'marvellous' new fabrics which have to be washed at 30. My OH has just bought himself a v jolly pair of stripy pants which say they must be washed at only 30 degrees and dried flat, not in a dryer. So either I have to wash them hotter and perhaps ruin them, or put up with the nasties. I refuse to do the sniff test, but thought that was very interesting !
  • If one is unlucky enough to have a drippy problem, then pantie liners will help to keep your pants cleaner......;)

:D In the interest of science I have done a wash in the American heavy duty top loader in stone cold water with big box bleachy persil powder and sniffed every gusset, armpit, and sock, and everything is spotlessly clean!

I do whites (most of our undies and socks + all towels) on a 60 or 90 wash. Coloured undies and particularly mucky things go on 40C. Everything else goes on a cold wash in warmer weather, or 30-40 in the winter to avoid the pipes freezing up.

I use either ecover non-bio laundry liquid or homemade laundry liquid.

Undies always get tumbledried, and clothes go on line whenever possible.

We smell fine (I know certain people would let us know if not.) We aren't often often poorly as a family of 5; the occasional sniffle in winter and I can count the occasions of stomach bugs on one hand (although the kids are still young!)

Following advice from District Nurses (partner had a severe infection after bypass surgery), I wash everything at 60 degrees and use Dettol anti bacterial as a prewash for everything.

Do you use this in a machine or as a soak in a bucket?

If in a machine is it instead of laundry detergent or as well as?

Also does it have a dettol fragrance or just a hygienic clean fragrance (once clothes are dry)

Thank you if you or any other user of this product replies.

I use it in the prewash dispenser of my washing machine and bio powder in the main wash dispenser. Usually to wash my dogs bedding...I use a softener in the final rinse and there is no smell of Dettol afterwards.
