PPI Database

Occasionally I respond to one of the very many PPI phone calls via my phone keypad.
When I speak to the person they always say according to records I may be entitled to PPI compensation. I always ask why do they think that? what records? They say "the" PPI Database.
I always go on to ask what is "the" PPI Database? Who administers it? etc etc...? The responses vary from immediate disconnection to being put on hold forever to being told they don't really know it's just what they are told to say.
My question is. Is there such a thing as a PPI database? If so how can I get access to it? I ought to be able to since it holds "some kind of" record about me.
If I am not sure whether I ever paid PPI and I haven't kept old loan agreements is there any other way I can find out if I did pay it? Certainly the cold callers imply there is, since they suggest they already know I 'may' have. Unless by that they mean well anyone 'may' have. In which case the statement is meaningless.
Any advice to these 'specific' questions would be greatly appreciated.

Is there such a thing as a PPI database?
No. There is no database. Your insurance details are not in the public domain. Its just your typical cold calling scammer trying to get business. Just as when they say approved by Govt or some regulator. it is all lies.If I am not sure whether I ever paid PPI and I haven't kept old loan agreements is there any other way I can find out if I did pay it?
Ask the lender.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Ask the lender.
Ok. Over the years there have probably been a few lenders. I will need to give some thought to who they are and find their current names and official contact details.
- How far back can one go?
- What ID information ought one to provide them with?
- How confident can one be of their response if they come back and say No, you never bought PPI off us?
Apologies if some of these questions are stupid.
Thanks again.0 -
