Child Tax Credits Reassurance

Hi all,

I am probably being a bit daft but just looking for some reassurance.

We have just had our second child. My partner does not work, I earn 17500 p.a. I done the CTC calculator and it said we would be entitled to an additional sum on the basis of 2 children instead of 1. We claim no other benefits other than Child Benefit.

I called and registered our second child and since I had not heard back for a bit I just called for an update. They advised that a letter is on its way to me and explains the decision. I know I should have asked what the letter stated on the phone however it never crossed my mind to ask. However the more I thought about it, the more I began to worry, as in past experiences we have always received a payment before the letter arrives.

Therefore I am just really looking for someone to confirm that we will definitely get an additional sum for an extra child or are there scenarios whereby you would not get paid for an additional child?

Silly question I know but any help appreciated?

    My partner does not work

It is he who is claiming the CB (to protect his state pension)?

Yes you'll definitely get more for an additional child, £2750 a year more than if you were claiming with one child.

There aren't any scenarios where you wouldn't get more for a second child, as long as you were still entitled to some CTC with one child. It used to be the case that people getting the family element only would sometimes not get any more, but the rules have changed.
