Double glazing - how much is it?

Please excuse my newbie-ness - I have no idea about house maintenance outside of what you can do with a basic B&Q toolkit ;)

I'm in the market for a new house, and going to view a nice looking house in the street I used to live on. All the houses in the street were built with single glazing. Most people have had them replaced, but this house hasn't. My old house had double glazing put in by its previous owners, so I have no idea what they paid. It was also a smaller house on the street, so probably not a fair comparison even if I knew.

Here is the Rightmove link for the house. It's the right hand side pair of the semi. Can anyone give me a rough idea how much it might cost to have the house double glazed please? I don't want to under-budget if I decide to make an offer.

Depends a bit on how structural the existing box bay window is in supporting the bay and porch roof.

www.smithsltd.co.uk/online-quote gave me a good indication on price online when I was looking for mine. (don't mean to pass on a link if its not allowed)

Do you want uPVC or timber frames (or aluminium etc.)?

Thanks to everyone - really helpful so far.

Clueless101, it would be UPVC. Everyone else on the street has gone for that option so we'd do it to be in keeping with them.

Owain, the bay isn't supported at all - there are two brackets which you can't see the for all the foliage at the front. In the last house I lived in, the previous owner had built outwards into the garden to make it a full length bay. Not sure that's an option here as the front garden is sloped.

I don't have any experience with the bay/box type, but for what I assume looking at floor plans/photos is 6 fairly small/medium windows, I'd say you could change those (so not including the bay/box) to uPVC for £2000-3000, but depends on frame manufacturer/colour (although I'm assuming white, which will be at the cheaper end), number of openings and "extras" like Georgian bars/astragal bars (Georgian are cheaper than astragal) etc.

Not sure if you are wanting to change the doors as well (looks like it's just the back door that's single glazed?) - could be anything from £400-1300 depending on quality/material/design.

We had 5 windows and a front door changed for around 3.5 K 18 months ago. Small local dealer gave much better prices than the big national companys and the windows were very obviously better quality too.

Looks like there are 5 windows, 3 Seg bay, front door and back door with window attached.... for the lot in Astragal Bars to match existing should be around 5-7k. 3-4 days to install. Do your homework on local companies, it's all in the fitting, no point having Rehau, Veka etc if its then ruined by poor installation
