Good Areas to live in Milton Keynes?

Hi All,

Hope everyone is doing Great! I am looking for some good areas in Milton Keynes to move in. I like quite areas where people are friendly and nice. I hate loud or any kind of music. I am ideally looking for some area near Milton Keynes Central Station so that I get connectivity to London easily; as and when required (I don't have a requirement to go to London daily). I have seen a similar article on this site which was posted 3 years back and there are some good areas mentioned in there (can't post the link here as this is my first thread and this site restricts me from doing so) but not sure which ones are near Central Station.

Also, I have recently seen a property in Bradwell Common. Any idea how that area is?

Thanks,
N

    google is your friend here.
look at the estates around MK station but avoid Loughton and Great Holm as they command massive prices since they are catchment for Denbigh School in Shenley (one of the top 3 schools in MK, the others are St Paul's (near Leadenhall) - the catholic school, and Ousedale which is Newport Pagnell & Olney).
getting around MK is pretty easy even if you don't have a car, busses are pretty good as long as you don't live out int he sticks like me.
you could do a google drive by in estates you'll soon get an idea about what they are like.

I'd avoid Conniburrow, Netherfield and The Lakes estates as they are quite rough.

There's a simple rule of thumb for sussing out the various estates in MK: Look at it on a map, the straighter the estate roads are, the worse the area is. It's not a perfect system, but it's usually pretty accurate.

Bradwell Common is okay, better towards the station end.

Avoid Fishermead. I like Campbell Park, Willen, Tattenhoe, and Newton Leys.

The beauty of Milton Keynes area compared with other towns is that if you are within 5 mins of a grid road, you will find you are not very far from anywhere!

I would actually recommend Loughton and Great Holm! Nice areas & close to the station.

I posted this previously... still agree with my own thoughts - apologies if anyone lives in one of my personal 'No' areas!

That's interesting, what's the reasoning behind that?!
  • Nicer areas:
    Woughton on the Green
    Loughton
    Stony Straftord (just outside MK)
    Shenley (all of them)
    Tattenhoe
    Walnut Tree
    Emerson Valley
Newport Pagnell (the older properties near the town centre)
    Willen
    Caldecotte
    Middleton
    Great Linford

    Areas I personally would avoid:
    Fishermead
    Conniburrow
    Lakes Estate
Bletchley - racecourse estate is okay
    Heelands
    Bradwell
    Beanhill
    Coffee Hall
    Greenleys

If the property is at the lower price end for that size/type of property, that's a fair indication that the area is the reason for it.

Nothing can beat a drive to the property and a 10 min walk around, you will soon get the gist.

    Good Luck.
  • Interesting. i live in Bradwell Common, and my bit of it is much nicer than other "good" areas where I lived before (Wavendon Gate, Monkston). My neighbour has just accepted a full price offer of 380k for their 3 bed within 10 days of going on the market, so clearly someone else thinks it's nice too!

The thing with MK is that it is a planned and designed town, rather than a haphazard jumble which has grown over centuries. Because of this, nearly all the estates contain a full spectrum of housing from 1 bed flats to 6 bed executive homes, and consequently nearly all estates have good bits and not so good bits. You'll have to check things out on a street by street basis rather than just by area.

very fair comment - my advice was on generic areas of MK. Even in Walnut Tree (which I quite like) there are roads within it I wouldn't live on i.e. next to the local centre/shop so there is no hard and fast rule.

If someone choses an area without going for a look around I would say that is stupidity.
