Redundancy or do same job for outside contractor ???

Options
I work for a small company ( about 30 employees) as a cleaner. The company has expanded its facilities for employees so there will be a lot more cleaning to do in the future. As such i have been informed today that the cleaning is to be taken over by an outside cleaning company. My boss has said that this company will employ me & i can work for them. He says it is up to me if i take up the offer. The boss says that his company has been very casual about cleaning for years, which they have, but now need to be able to legislate what is done & when. I dont think i want to work for this other company as i think i will have to work probably twice as long for a lot less pay. At the moment i do not work on an hourly rate but get paid weekly to do the job. Basically the quicker i do it the sooner i go home. This would also change working for someone else. I asked the boss if i did not want to work for this other company then would he have to make me redundant ? He says i imagine so but he didnt seem sure. Can anyone tell me what i should expect if i say no thanks ? I have worked there 4 years & get paid weekly. I will be sad to leave as i get on well with the boss as i have known him for about 30 years. I understand he has a business to run & have not taken this personally. We sat & had a good chat & he explained his reasons which i accept.

This happen to my mum in her 'old' job.

After speaking to her boss, I helped her set up her own little company. She invoices for the work done on a monthly basis (previously paid weekly)

Her old employer was happy - 1 less on the books
She is happy - keeps same job
I'm not so happy - I have to do the books/invoicing/tax returns

Could this be an option for you?
