Tv refund/exchange

Options
Can anybody help me out please? I bought a new tv from Sainsbury's on December last year. The screen has now started to play up and IS unwatchable.I Jane the receipt but not the box. Are Sainsbury's likely to refund/exchange the tv pot ate they on their rights to fob me off by telling me to go to the manufacturers.
I'm assuming I'm within my rights to go back to the store I bought out from. I just want to confirm this.

Within 6 months so down to the retailer.

Original packaging not require with a faulty return.

Ring helpline above and see what they say.

You are not " entitled" to a refund/exchange.

You are "entitled" to a repair at no cost to you .

Although not a legal point they generally have 28 days to provide a repair. If the TV cannot be repaired within a reasonable timescale they should provide an exchange or refund.

Anything above this is usually just goodwill and not an entitlement.

    Ring and find out.

Wrong. The OP MAY be entitled to a remedy (which may be one of repair, replacement or refund)

Which is precisely what he said just below the bit you put in bold....:o I just think that he assumed that Sainsburys would offer the cheaper resolution first.

I don't think it was at all. I'm sorry to be pedantic but keith1950 was stating that the only "entitlement" was for a repair and only if this wasn't appropriate could a refund or exchange be offered. This is not the case at all and completely different to what I posted to correct him.

I took it that he was stating that the OP was entitles to one of the 3 remedies, of either Repair, replace or refund, not saying that they would not get a refund/repair.

He put entitled in '''' to state that the consumer, does not have the choice, they can ask, but it is down to Sainsburys which route they want to offer. That's the way I took it anyway.

I always find that you have more chance of a refund/replacement, if you have the original packaging for the product, although this is not required for SOGA. I try and keep boxes for as long as possible, for any event which may arise. The retailer is more open to swap if they wont have any issue with returning to the manufacturer. Most manufacturers will not take back without the original packaging from the retailer.
