halifax insurance claim

Hello I wrote to the halifax to reclaim bank charges for insurance they sold me that I could not use, I signed up on line for their reward account, which gave me free holiday insurance free phone insurance, free home emergency free AA £15 a month I thought was a good deal, I tried to get the holiday insurance but because I have rheumatoid arthritis it is not free, I tried to claim on a mobile phone to be told I had to send in (I cant remember) £15 before they would look at the claim, so that was not FREE, I already have RAC and I like their home emergency cover but could have purchased it cheaper through my home insurance policy. Anyway I'm still paying it, but have filed a claim with the ombudsman, will it be frowned upon that I am still paying it, or should I have cancelled it? I am still paying until my home insurance is due then I am going to price up their home emergency cover? But the financial ombudsman is looking at my case shortly will it make a difference on their outcome? Any advice please.

It is quite common to have a loading to get yourself covered for pre-existing conditions.I tried to claim on a mobile phone to be told I had to send in (I cant remember) £15 before they would look at the claim, so that was not FREE,
A policy excess exists on nearly every insurance going. That is quite normal.I already have RAC and I like their home emergency cover but could have purchased it cheaper through my home insurance policy
The fact you could have purchased a different product elsewhere is irrelevant. However, an overlapping policy can be used as grounds for complaint depending on the level of overlap and which came first.
it makes no difference although if you are doing so to see if you can get better than that would work against you. If your complaint succeeds, it will void your cover.Anyway I'm still paying it, but have filed a claim with the ombudsman, will it be frowned upon that I am still paying it, or should I have cancelled it?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Yes but when I took out the ultimate reward account, it did not state anything about pre existing medicals or excess for phone insurance, and I did not have car breakdown cover at that time, but never used it anyway, then I got a motability car and they automatically cover me with the RAC. I was told I would be covered and it would not cost me, until I rang up when I needed these items, this is why I am trying to claim because it was mis-sold. But like I say I will go back and get home emergency cover when I get my home insurance renewal as I can get it cheaper. I saw Martin on the TV saying claim if this was the case so I did. But I wasn't sure whether I should have cancelled the policy to make a case with financial ombudsman? £15 a month is a great deal if you get use of all they offer, but not when you are having to pay like me because of disability.0

doesnt mean you get to win a complaint because of that. Only if the pre-existing condition was sufficient to make the cover useless or near useless would it matter.
Excesses on insurance are normal and expected. Unless you can prove you were told there was no excess, this complaint would be unlikely to succeed.I did not have car breakdown cover at that time, but never used it anyway, then I got a motability car and they automatically cover me with the RAC.
A mis-sale complaint relates to circumstances at point of sale. Not later events. So, at point of sale, there was no overlap. Not using insurance is lucky. It means you have not suffered a claimable event and you should be grateful for that. However, if you had, then it would have covered you.
The FOS will have access to documents and info that we here do not. They actually uphold most of these complaints. So, whilst there are some weaknesses in your complaint, there are some potential plus points which may be enough to persuade the FOS. It is impossible to judge in advance with some complaints.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. This last sentence on its own is going to make it tough to pursue a complaint about it.
Generally speaking if you've signed up online nobody's sold it to you. You've bought it.
Not saying its impossible for a complaint to succeed but difficult.0
