What about the other Nat.....National and Provincial anyone?
Birmingham Midshires?
Greenwich.....pathetic though it was, it secured my membership of the Porkmen when they evicted me with the other 499 badboys.
Porkmen.
Woolwich.
Cheltenham and Gloucester I missed out on.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
'The Portman 500' :money:0

I clean forgot about the Woolwich! that was shares as well I believe, one of the minor ones.
I can't remember what the payout was with Birmingham Midshires when it was taken over by the Halifax.
I had the Portman, Staffordshire and Lambeth, they all ended up merged before swallowed up by the Nationwide. Carpetbagging started to peter out when they began having to have a local address to open accounts.
There must have been dozens if not a hundred or so small societies you've never even heard of, all gone now.0 -

interesting that you kept 'the two Nats'..i opened an account with NCBS last week and am 'benefitting' from 1.75% in Nationwide's Loyalty Saver nowadays.
Yes, they were all windfalls so you're probably right. By chance I also benefited from the 1.75 at Nationwide because of the 15 years.
Opening the NCBS now don't you have to sign away any windfall rights? I had to keep a grand in there during the halcyon days as minimum when they were afraid of merger fever, now it's just 101 quid.0 -
My "box" had over 100 passbooks at its peak.....many were dupes with me, Mrs Frog and the Tadpoles all having accounts. I chucked them out a few weeks ago, when I realised that my ebay hopes for them were minimal.illegitimi non carborundum0

The National Counties "Passport" was worth £4,000 approx. per member in the late 90s (sauce.....probably Daily Mail). Presumably they've spunked all their reserves against the wall and its worth sod all now.Yes, they were all windfalls so you're probably right. I was there!!! But they were too incompetent to evict me from all my accounts with them.
My youngest is doing GCSE history, and part of it is the miners strike and the Poll Tax riots......I keep telling her "I was there"!!!
you were involved in the Poll Tax Riots and were a Striking Miner, Froggitt?0 -

i am actually already a NCBS member, with a different account. the consensus has been that windfall declarations are likely to be bypassed when the time is right. again, we shall see...0 -
