My ex-mother-in-law is in a nursing home moved from a care home 4 months ago as she needed more care. She is not self funding, I was asked to pay to get her hair done as she has not money surely this cann't be right as she has been in care homes for the passed 5yrs and her spends of not sure the amount 23/25 pounds a week was going into a Nat West account so she should have 5 thousand pound there plus a savings account of nearly 9 thousand pounds so with all this money why I am being asked to pay. At this present home they she came with no money from the previous nursing home and will look into it. I am not even a family member just me and her 2 granchildren which are my children visit.

Sounds like there is an error if she has money in accounts.

The home won't have access to your ex MIL's account. You should speak to whoever in your family has access, they can draw it out and pay the home.
I used to leave a fixed amount with the home for my MIL to pay the hairdresser, trips out etc. They'd ring me when she ran out.0 -
She has a son in New Zealand who I have no contact with so whether he controls her account I don't know, she had her hair done at the previous home. Sounds like they just haven't informed the new place her financial details. At the last home they said they had opened a Nat West for her spends that they had permission to access.Who controls the bank accounts?0 -
Speak to the previous care home - they should be able to tell you who dealt with your ex mil's finances. If her next of kin lives abroad it may be that Social Services have deputyship of her affairs & they haven't arranged to pay a weekly amount in the mil's personal account at the new home like was obviously being done at the previous home. Your mil is allowed to keep an amount from her weekly pension for personal expenses (approx £24 I think) and someone (probably her Local Authority who are paying her care fees) should ensure this is being done.0

My grandad's in a nursing home and we have to give them spending money for things like getting his hair cut. He has a teeny amount of money left from the sale of his house but the home have no access to this (why would they?)0

When my mum was in a home, they advised us to open a sort of savings account with them, and put £10-15 a week into it, which used to cover her hairdresser, and things like contributions to trips out.
We got back what was left, when she died.
Ask the home if they do this.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.
