fine for no insurance

hello last month my car was declared a right off but i didnt know you had to decalre sorn while the process was happening.

today i recieved a letter for a fine because of no insurance but i transfered my insurance to another car.

can i get out of the fine if the car has been sat wrote off at a garage and hasnt been on a road even if i have not done a sorn?

    You could give the DVLC a ring and explain the circumstances, I managed it once because of illness but they
    will listen to each one on its merits.

    surely ownership would have transferred to the insurance company when it was written off

    Did you not receive a warning letter first, to either SORN, Insure it or inform them you are no longer the keeper by a certain date?

    It would, but doesn't sound like the OP informed DVLA they were no longer the keeper but Insurance were.

    DVLA? DVLC? Doesn't matter either way, they're still a bunch of thieving %^$s. Going after easy to catch law abiding citizens with an iron fist, rather than chasing after whole communities of people who use unregistered vehicles, false names/addresses, no tax and no insurance.
