Elnur electric radiators

We are in the process of sorting out the heating in our house, the current storage heaters are approx 10 years old and incorrectly sized. The options we have is electric or oil (we don't want oil).
We therefore have electric systems to choose from, we understand storage heaters and their drawbacks. The one issue we have is the house is fairly exposed so the heating needs to be good. Elnur have suggested their electric heaters, these look ok but seem expensive to run, albeit the house will always be warm whatever the weather. Has any body got any views / running costs of this type of heater.

All electric heating is equal it is 100% efficient, you will use 1 unit of expensive electricity to get one unit of heat.
You need to work out the heat loss for each room then you will be able to work out how much heat you need in each room.
Presuming you are off mains gas grid you should be looking at, insulating so you don't need any heating, Ground and Air Source Heat Pumps (electric heating that can be 300% efficient) and bio mass (logs, chips or pellets) these options can attract he Renewable Heat Incentive payments.0 -
If your current storage heaters are undersize would replacing them with correctly sized ones be cost effective.
Also, look for insulation grants for your property. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/free-cavity-loft-insulation0 -

Get properly sized modern storage heaters and insulate, and they will keep your house toasty warm all day long.0 -
The fact that the house is exposed does not necessarily mean that you need larger heaters. It means that you need to install some serious insulation before you do anything else. Then go onto correctly sized storage heaters.
As someone has already said all electric heaters are 100% efficient. The only reason to choose one type instead of another, is convenience of use.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Thanks for all of the replies.
Changing the heating is only part of the works I in tend to undertake, the loft is going to be topped up to 250mm of insuation, I'm going to verify there is cavity wall insulation, seal gaps around windows, replace failed draught strips, put nuaire on timer and then replace with correctly sized (or over sized ) heaters (my original plan was automatic storeage heaters)
I was just pointed in the direction of the electric rads, but couldn't see how they don't cost a small forture to run given they are on 24/7 contollled via a thermosat but using full rate electric. I was just hoping someone had some pointer on the amount used.
I've sized the heaters using dimplex's guide but elnur recommend a different kw haeter for most of the rooms? Can't understand why?0 -

Apologies the sizing charts / calculations are fo storage heaters, the elnur are pretty much the next size up for each room over the dimplex figures - guess the elnur may be more generic as the dimplex covers more detail - I think torage heaters will be the way forward, just need to make sure theyre big enough0

When sizing storage heaters, it is important that they are not undersized, it is not a problem if they are oversized, so long as they are automatic charge control.
You may as well go for the most advanced storage heater you can find, sealed fan assist units from dimplex are supported by the energy saving trust, and will likely make you qualify for government cash back.0 -
There is quite a good thread on here about Dimplex Quantum SH, which may be useful to read through. If you go down that route, also look at the creda/nobo range of quantum. They are the same company, just rebadged.

I have been to their offices, and they have them working in the meeting rooms. Considering it was 3 pm, they were still toasting hot. They have had good reveiews, but a little fiddly to fine tune.0
