Annoying Halifax card problem

About 6 months ago I did a cash advance on my Halifax card. (yes i know!) I was waiting for some money to clear into my current account and needed cash urgently.

Anyway I paid off the balance plus the cash advance fee about 3 days later. Next month I get a statement through and they have charged me a couple of £ interest on it. Fair enough, I know what cash advances are like, so I paid off the couple of pound straight away. Next month they have charged me interest on the balance I have paid..... so I paid it off in full again. Can you see where this is going ? For the last 6 months they have charged me interest every single month on the balance I pay.... How on earth am I supposed to clear this ? It is on DD to take the payment but because it is so small they don't actually take anything now. One month I didn't make a manual payment and left it to the the DD, which didn't take, to which they promptly charged me more interest !

I currently have a balance of 1p on the card. I thought i'd try an online debit card payment as it will probably cost them more to process it.... alas the payment was declined !

I'd ring them but it will cost me more for the phone call ! I have had this problem with halifax before... i swore i'd never use the card again then. None of my other card providers do this ? i work in the credit industry and we certainly don't to this either..

Is this going to show up on my credit file as a balance or what ?

Incidentally I did the same thing on my Barclaycard at the same time due to the amount of cash I needed and had no issues paying them off.

    As you have said, if you get the statement in and pay what it tells you is the closing balance, you will find that there will be interest next month as interest is charged on a daily basis.

    Since the interest is accruing on a daily basis, you need to overpay the balance, sending you into credit. I don't know what you mean when you say;

    "It is on DD to take the payment but because it is so small they don't actually take anything now"

    As regardless of the amount; if the DD is setup and in place, it will take (either) the full balance or the minimum payment.

    To cut to the case, either pop into a branch and use their free telephone service to speak to the CC dept, or get a call back from the website (which is free) and get transferred to the CC dept and ask them to remove the 1p.

    HTH.

    thanks,

    With regards to the DD - the due payment on the statement has shown up as £0 for about 3-4 months now. It is set up and in place but it doesn't take anything.

    I had this - my balance was 71p, so they were waiving their right to take the DD from my bank account. Simply pay a cheque (or BACS) for about £2 onto the card and it should sort your problem. I'm surprised you've not been hit for their minimum finance charge of 50p too :rolleyes:
