Permitted work whilst on ESA

Hi, I am currently in the receipt of DLA Higher Rate mobility, lower rate care and ESA support group.

I have been unable to work for the last 10 years but I have recently been looking at finding a desk job but I don't want to go for it and risk losing my benfits if I am unable to do the job.

Is there any advice anybody can give me please?

Thanks

Only DWP can decide if what you want to do would be classed as 'Permitted Work'. There is no definitive list, it is down to each Decision Maker. You would need to contact DWP and ask if your work is considered to be permitted. Obviously you need to ensure that the demands of the job are not incompatible with your limitations as described in the application forms. You should also be aware that, whilst this should not trigger a reassessment, this information would be available to whoever does your next assessment and may put your Support Group status at risk.

There are also linking rukes in place in case you should take on a job, sign off ESA, and be unable to manage. You can reclaim and go straight back into your previous group as long as this is within 12 (or 13?) weeks of the claim being closed.
  • Tread very very very carefully. If you do "permitted Work" they may try & argue later on that you are in fact fit for work even though your work choices are ultra restricted. In an Iron Lung? Yes, you can still answer the phone kind of thing with a hands free set!
