Dark, Desperate But Not Defeated

Hey

Some of you may recognise my name from a long time ago. I have been around the forum for years.

My story started a few years ago, various ups and downs have led me to my current situation.

I literally have no idea how much debt I have now.

I have arrears in my mortgage, council tax are trying to pursue a CCJ and I have payday loans coming out of my ears.

I made every mistake possible over the last year and I am in a very dark place at the moment. I don't know how to fix things.

A couple of months ago I swallowed my pride and contacted StepChange, the person was very helpful but since then nothing has happened as I live in Scotland my best option was for a DAS. I really don't understand why everything is taking so long. It is a nightmare and I know I only have myself to blame but I don't know what to do now. Well I do, I should work out my debts so that I have a record and start cutting back. In all honesty I am scared to work out everything and I can't really cut back anything else.

I feel like I am drowning.

    Thank you Matilda80

Beanielou, I went through StepChange for help and it went to DAS for a DPP (even as I type these abbreviations I really don't remember much of the conversations I have had about the things !). I called the number I had for DAS and they said they have alot of people waiting for applications to be completed or looked into. I have called StepChange back and asked if a debt advisor could contact me and discuss my situation again because I am getting no where with DAS.

Do you have a local CAB near you with a money advice team?
They could help you to set up a DAS.

Have you checked for your name on the DAS Register?

    www.dasscotland.gov.uk

(Click on search, under 'das register')

If you are on there, then click on 'Select' next to your name, and it will tell you what's happening with your DAS.

If you're not on there, give StepChange a call, and ask what's happening with your DAS.

    Hope this helps.
  • Just big hugs in case you are awake and worried. you are solving the problem and it WILL work out.

Keep posting here and remember you are not the only one ok?

    More hugs

    Thank you guys :)

I have checked the DAS register, I'm not on it. I didn't think all this stuff would take so long.

It's been since March now. They just keep telling me there is a back log of things they are working through. Basically they haven't even looked at my stuff yet.

    Right !
I am sitting down and looking at my debts today.
The main concerns (above all of the concerns haha) is getting my mortgage account back to good standing. I have got a soa on the way to them with a proposed payment offer.
I have contacted the council about my arrears for council tax and have set up a payment plan.
Next on my list is to go through each company I have debt with and contact them for full details and to make payment plans with each.
Stepchange have been next to useless in my case and I will be doing things myself instead. I have the resources to figure things out myself, so I will !

    No tears today.

Typical, I start sorting things and make a complaint about about stepchange and then they arrange a check point call for friday.
