Joint Bank Account Disassociation

Hi
Thank you for all your comments Halifax complaints department have just called me to advise me that they will update my credit file to show as a sole account however they cannot update my husbands credit file as he has no accounts with
them! They have said that by updating my file it should remove it from my husbands although it wont show for 4 weeks and they cannot guarantee it. They have offered me compensation and the financial ombudsmans details if i am not happy HELP!!!!
This sounds like major progress, and if I were you, I would now ask Experian what they suggest as the next steps.
Reading between the lines, it sounds like the real issue is that you don't want your husband to see anything about the account. As making a joint account a sole one is probably a rare transaction, there is probably not much system support for this, and corrections can only be made manually. If all else fails, can't you just switch your account to a new sole account? The guaranteed switcher service should make this transparent for you, and Halifax should be keen to help you with it.0 -
You can keep nitpicking, but my post was made in context of the OP's situation, who has already contacted the CRA that refused to break the link because of the allegedly active joint account, and contacted Halifax that lied about the irrelevant marriage.
Yes, I should have said "create unbreakable association" in more general context.0 -
Hi
Just to clarify the account has not been joint since 2012.
Thanks0 -
Hi Karen99,
If the Halifax account is still showing as active on your husband’s account we can contact them on your husband’s behalf to request they update it. Ask your husband to send us his details at and we will be happy to do this.
Once the account has been updated and shows as settled in your husband's name we will be able to financially disassociate you, as long as you have no other active financial connections to your husband. This will remove the association entries from both you and your husband’s reports.
To do this you would need to complete and return a financial connections questionnaire which you can download or submitted online here
Kind Regards

Why is it that you can't break the association if for some reason people keep sharing the same address while having no active connections? This makes no sense to me.0

Hi
Experian representative thank you for your reply my husband has sent you an e-mail and he has filled the disassociation form and e-mailed to you. I am a bit disappointed that he was not given this information when he called yesterday and was told that it was out of Experians hands.0 -
I think you misunderstood Neil as what he actually said was:Experian representative thank you for your reply my husband has sent you an e-mail and he has filled the disassociation form and e-mailed to you. I am a bit disappointed that he was not given this information when he called yesterday and was told that it was out of Experians hands.
When saing "If the Halifax account is still showing as active " he meant showing after Halifax update the information, not ATM.Experian_company_representative wrote: »Once the account has been updated and shows as settled in your husband's name we will be able to financially disassociate you, ...0 -
I think i am just pleased that Experian are at least going to contact the Halifax direct to clarify the details rather than leaving us to try and get through the minefield of getting them to both talk to each other. Although i am still not clear on the financial link to just being married!0

Santander told me that if me and my partner were married then they would treat us as being financially linked just because we were married! They linked us anyway just because- I kid you not honestly, I wish this weren't true because it was a nightmare to sort out- we're male and female living at the same address so therefore we must be partners  we are, but that's not the point. We don't have the same name- he could be my landlord or a relative or just a friend- the scary thing is I wouldn't have even known if they hadn't started helping themselves to money out of my account to service his delinquent overdraft  I had to file disassociation but it must have worked because he got 11k of car finance and a £250 overdraft and new current account after I did so..*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200
