tax credit office can't verify who i am. help!

I phoned the tax credits helpline last week to tell them OH had moved out. they informed me i needed to make a new claim. i gave them my details and thought everything was ok. today however the money has stopped going into my bank from the old claim, so i rang them for an update. now they tell me they couldn't verify my details and asked for my previous name and address which dates back to 1989! i havent moved in 26 years and they can't find me on their system. all this is going to delay the claim. i am at a loss what to do. my bills are all set to bounce on monday.

Suggest you look at the last joint award & see if the details you recently gave them for the single claim are the same. Could you have transposed a number in nat ins ref for example. There may be a mistake on the joint claim - that's just possibilities.
If you have access rto on line banking you might be able to cancel direct debits to stop the charges or ring them & tell them what is happening. Sometimes banks will help if you ask nicely.

See - what did I tell you. Glad that's sorted.
