Hi Guys, I'm now using W7, but still have my recovery discs which I purchased when I had Vista already installed on my machine.I've never used it.
My friend has Vista, and is having trouble and wants to do a clean instal, but does not have recovery discs. Can he use mine, and use his key, which is on the back of his machine? He likes Vista, does not want W7/8..

If you didn't buy a retail version of Vista (e.g. if it came pre-installed on your PC), then the licence only allows you to install that copy of Vista on the original machine.

I suppose you could swap computers... :-/

whilst it's possible to use those discs you created for your computer, here are a few issues they might come across on theirs:
The version may be bios locked to your manufacturer and might not activate.
There will be incorrect drivers for devices like wireless lan, graphics etcetera.

Can you give me the makes of laptop?

Thanks esuhl. No, it was already installed on my pc, oem, but the recovery discs cost me £35, just thought they may have been ok on his, as his key is on his pc.I thought the key was what couldn't be used on more than 1 pc, not the recovery disc?
Mines W7 now, he doesn't like it, and I like my pc.No swap alas.
