Finding out my landline number?

Posted the thread under broadband, so please ignore that one.

Just got a new place, previous tenants disappeared. How do i find out what the landline number is? I plugged in a phone in the hope of calling my mobile to find the number but the line is dead. Not tone of any description.

Call BT. Your number may have already been taken away, and they will need to give you a new one.

just called tesco broadband and they said i would have to have my line reactivated and would cost £35 and they cant give me a date for the engineer unless i buy the broadband!

If you ring around, you'll find the different companies all have different fees and prices for reactivation.

Not sure who is cheapest.

Wow, i sensed the tesco operator was lying... I don't know what it was exactly, just a feeling.

So I phoned back and got a different operator. She checked my line and told me my line can be reconnected without sending an engineer and can be done remotely and so i went for it. She said I should be all hooked up before 2 weeks.
