what fridge freezer do you have?

I cant decide which one to buy, I want a simple basic white one, 160 cm to 170ish height.
I checked Which, but their best ones are too expensive.
I considered hotpoint at £269 from J Lewis, but is the added 2 yr warrant required? Surely any make these days last more than that?
Which. Dont rate hotpoint much unless its a higher spec one.

so, what did you buy?

Daewoo. Frost free, 2 year guarantee, cost £300 from Curry's. Works fine. Was terrible noisy at first, now it's okay.

i have had several Hotpoint fridgefreezers.
i bought another last year and within months the handle developed a hairline crack, Hotpoint sent someone out no problem, but not the strongest of handles.
we bought ours from DIY.COM online. (B&Q) http://www.bandqappliances.com/fridge-freezers/fridge-freezers.aspx

Zanussi are normally reasonably priced and decent, JL's own brand are Zanussi's. Had one for the last 8 years and it has been no trouble..

The only one I would avoid from personal experience is Beko, we had a kitchen built round one in a flat we now rent, and sadly only they do the size...we have been through three of them in in twelve years. They are cheap..but still....

LG - frost free, realised after I'd bought it, it's actually blown air, so no drains or bits that can get blocked. Always been whisper quiet, now 12 years old and still as good as new.
American style f/f but survived 2 house moves (which I did myself:eek:)
Had a bit of damage on the back corner, got it for £400.:j best F/F I've ever had, but could be costly to repair if/ when it goes wrong . . ..

Have a look on www.AO.com - they do appliances with free next day delivery & offer warranties if needed.

Have a look in a BIG Currys store. They have a good range & you can see inside each fridge, for features, or build quality that you like.

The sizes can be quite surprising to convuse the amount of USEABLE space inside.

Then do your on line price match.

& we had a Samsung American with ice maker, couple houses ago, when everyon had problems with them, ours was fine.

Then gloss black LG American at last house, loved it, especially in the dark - lights on the water & ice outlet looked funky!

Now in the place now, 7 year old Hoover, cheapie, which is fine, although it ices up in lumps inside the corner. Probably because it has very little food stored.

Next one, at new place, will be a seperate Ikea fridge and freezer, built in undercounter. £250 each with 5 year warranty.

Thanks for all replies, I did wonder about hoover.
AO online seem very good, they had an item on radio 4 today and I was impressed by the company.
I am also wondering the merit of buying secondhand? Is it a good gamble?

For a fridge freezer? Not as much of a risk as other things - it's only got the one major moving part, the motor. However, they can get broken when being moved, make sure you follow guidelines about shifting one around.

Just bought a new f-f, Hotpoint, 160cms tall and 55cms wide with small freezer compartment on top and large fridge. Anti bacterial. £199 online from Very and 10% discount if you open an account with them. Seems fine. Delivered on time and old one taken away. Only possible drawback it has all glass shelves so bottles slide around a bit and would have preferred metal "grille" type shelves for that reason. Otherwise fine.

I've got a Daewoo American style fridge/freezer with water and ice machine and I think it's great. Never have had an issue with it...... Well technically that's not true... I did have small white bits come out with the ice for a while at first... then realised I hadn't removed the polystyrene packaging from around the ice maker/ice box before using it....... Note !!! no matter how big an ego you have ..... always read the instructions !! :rotfl:
