ESA sanction that was unaware of for 16 months

Hello I need some advice regarding a sanction.
in January I had a medical which failed, I done a mandantory reconsideration and was found that the original decision was wrong. and was re awarded esa.
in april i had a letter stating i would recieve £72.49pw. i phoned dwp to ask why it was so low when the rate is around £100pw
i was told i was in an essement fase for 13 weeks, then the women said had an unusually long sanction dating back to november 2012.
they confirmed to me and citizens advice that there was no records of any letters sent out to me about appointments ir sanctions.
i was not aware of this sanction as at the time i was paying social fund, and crisis loans back.
i have now filled in an appeal form and awaiting a decision. i suffer from severe anxiety and agrophobia and feel i have been misstreated.
im not sure what to do. i am waiting on a appeal. but i dont think i should be appealing over something that the dwp has made an error over.
as i suffer from anxiety i find it hard to usd the phone or g o out and get help.
the wmen i spoke to agreed i was vunerable and shoukd have been placed in a support group and not the work related group. i have lost out on nearly £2000 over 16 months as i was not aware.
any info, free legal advice or anything that anyone can suggest would be great.
thanks

Contact the CAB, as they will look at the whole thing, find out what is going on, and contact the DWP on your behalf:

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.
