Deposited cash in one of those Halifax self-service envelope things

Hi all,

Yesterday I made a cash deposit in my local Halifax branch. The queue for the counter was quite long so I just used their self-service cash deposit service where you put your cash in an envelope, write your account details on it, then post it through the slot.

It says that if you do it by 4pm it will be processed the same working day. I did it at about 1pm yesterday but still nothing is showing up in my account! I still have the receipt, has this happened to anyone else? Was planning on going back to the branch today to tell them, right hassle though...definitely won't be using that service again.

Thanks for any help/advice anyone may have.

My experience (at a different bank) is that it can infrequently be a bit hit and miss - in terms of a day's delay - but it never went missing completely.

If the cash in the envelope didn't match what you wrote on it that might cause a delay

What receipt did the slot provide you with as you stuffed an envelope allegedly full of cash into it?

There is a little slip you tear off the envelope which has a serial number on it.

Anyway the money has just gone into my account. Took about 24 hours. They say it should be in same working day if done before 4pm so not very happy about that, definitely not using again. Glad it's sorted though!

Yesterday was the first working day after a bank holiday - you yourself said the queue was bad - perhaps all the staff were too busy on the tills to open the machine and process the contents?

That shouldn't be the customer's problem though.

The contents of that deposit box should have been processed same day.

(Most branches have deposit machines which are instant. Use that next time).
