Hi guys,
I was wandering if any of you have any tips of getting rind of slugs? I don't really want to use any pesticides as have a toddler and a dog who both like to put things in there mouths. This is my first year at growing vege and my lettuce is looking very Holey at the moment.
Thanks

Make some beer traps and dig them in around the garden.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

I use loads of slug pellets and yet my veg looks holey I dread to think what unprotected crops are going through. You could use ground up egg shells, human hair, sheep wool or plastic cloches, leave a plant unprotected for the slugs to feast on and maybe they will leave the protected ones alone.0

Thank you for you suggestions do I just put human hair around the base of the plants? That we seem to have loads of!0

Nematodes would be my choice around food crops0

Hi
If you leave an upturned pot close by on the soil or grass you may find alot of slugs underneath which allows you to dispose of them. I put them in the green bin to go with the council garden waste.

I have used these for the first time this year and I actually have some runner beans left and some french beans too as there are no more slugs eating them..they cost about a tenner but havent had any slugs for over 4 weeks nowI_have_spoken wrote: »Nematodes would be my choice around food crops0 -
Ditto nematodes, they work really well for me, although no on snails so you'll still need to do something about them.
With all this wet weather we're having its the perfect time to apply them too.A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

Where do you deposit the nematodes?M.A.C.A.W member number 39

They come as a sort of powder you mix in watering can and then water over the ground.0
