Getting a credit report with no debit card?

Hi all,

just wondered, as most of you know I went BR on Friday, can anyone give me any idea of how I can get a credit report on the internet (if possible) without a debit card???

Can this be done??

Thanks, Claire

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can Claire.

I was under the impression that for the online report services the credit/debit card in your name was one of the vital ways they use to verify that it's you who is gaining access to your own report. Without these sorts of checks any of us could access the full report of anyone else.

You can of course write to the 3 main agencies to get your paper reports, costing £6 in total.

See http://www.ico.gov.uk/for_the_public/topic_specific_guides/credit.aspx if you haven't see this already.

Do you have a specific reason for wanting to see your reports?

Personally, I'm not even going to look at mine till I'm discharged as before then there is nothing I can do to improve them.

    Hi Fermi,

I thought that might be the case. I don't even know why I want to look at it to be honest, just a weird curiosity has crept in today.

I'll send for one of the paperbased ones. Thanks for replying.

If they are going to look anything like mine must, you should have a quick drink with us in the 'Inn' before you open the info you get back.:o

Oh, I would have a look, fermi. I signed up with Equifax for their alert system, which sends you an e-mail within 24 hours of a change being made on your credit file, & you just click on the link they give you to read the details. I've had 6 alerts from them in the couple of weeks I've been signed up past the free trial period. One entry was a blatant error (said I had arrears when I didn't), but because the entry was so new I was able to ring the company involved & get them to amend it the same day I heard about it, & it showed up corrected minutes later. I don't think it would have been that easy if I hadn't known about it until several months had passed. Another entry was by a company I didn't recognise - when I rang them, they told me they're often asked to do searches on behalf of other companies, & they didn't have any details about me on their files, so it was nothing for me to worry about. I'm keeping a copy of all the searches & the information I get about any I want to query, then I'll send a dispute thingy to Equifax to get any outstanding ones corrected. I think the minimum time with Equifax is 3 months, which I think will be enough time to get all my debts finally showing up on my file. So far, it's been worth paying the monthly money. :)

With a bit of luck I should be getting my discharge though soon. Even if I have to wait it will only be the end of September max.

    I think I'll leave it until then.:o

Oh, that's fair enough then. The only thing that's likely to change between now & September is the weather. :)

You can get a free credit report at: http://www.annualcreditreport.co.uk

Also, when I was last in London, the free paper 'Metro' were offering free credit reports, via their website.
