Good luck I am turning my garden in to a cottage garden and have 100's of plants waiting to go in just need to dig it over again build my paths and put a small pond in. You will need to know how much light your boarder gets when picking your plants.

I have got lots of my plants from ebay much cheaper than the garden centre and they have all been pretty good just need growing on for a while.

Also got this set from Thompson and morgan you just need to pay postage

A good place to ask for seed is on your local freecycle group

I've just tried to order the T&M set but although it says pay postage of £5.65 it adds another postage charge of £4.95 making it £10.60 is this right?

    A glow-worm's never glum.
Its hard to be downhearted when the sun shines out your bum.

has anyone mentioned campanula? - Canterbury Bells.

Re Osteosperum, I have found the white edged in purple are fairly hardy but the yellow, pink and purple ones are not.

Penstemon - various varieties but some are hardier than others.

Fuschia planted some from T&M last year but only one variety has come up this year and last year wasn't even cold.

I grew my lupins from seed and then realised after the 2nd year the plant needed moving I was so shocked how far I had to dig down considering it was only a tiny seed a couple of years before, they can get white fly but they are troopers.

Dicentra - bleeding heart look at a picture it is so unique, doesn't grow that tall think mine I got from Wilko one year.

Depending on your soil - camellias and rhododendrons

and Honesty plant, comes up purple in spring and then you get the clear seed pods later in the year.

Husband grows lots of lilies in pots including tree lilies which this year we have placed at the back of a border where we took out a pampus grass this year.

You could consider buying plants maybe repotting into larger pots and placing those next to the fence border so you could move them when you do the fence and plant in the soil later.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I went past a plant stall on the local market today and couldn't resist stopping to have a browse...came home with foxgloves, lupins, sweet william and two pots of cornflowers (all for £10.50, which I think is a bargain because everywhere I've looked wants around £6-8 just for a lupin). They'll all be going in along the fence next to the panel that is finished...I think the border will slowly creep along the length of the fence as it gets done. It's a good idea to put some things in pots along the unfinished parts of the fence while I wait.

I also picked up some seed compost yesterday so I can start the lupin, poppy and foxglove seeds I was planning to start this summer to flower next year.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!
