A bit of praise for Ryanair.

Options
Booked a Ryanair flight at about 4am this morning, as a surprise for the OH. We had been talking about it for a few days and so just booked it and was going to wait for a few weeks and surprise her with it.

Fast forward to this afternoon, she tells me she wants to book the flights and has them in the basket ready to book. Surprise totally ruined, i had to confess to having already booked them.

And here comes the problem, i booked the wrong bloody dates, she calls work and cant move her holidays, and i start thinking i may have to just write off the cost of the flights and book new ones. Its usually cheaper than making amendments last time i had to do it, it cost me nearly £150.

To my surprise Ryanair have introduced a new policy called' Minor Changes'. A quick phone call and the dates had been changed and no admin or amendment charges. It turns out you can make quite a lot of changes within 24 hours of booking for free.

I have flown Ryanair for years, and have always had fun playing their money extraction games, Including wearing 3 jumpers in a hot July and having flip flops in my pockets.

For once Ryanair have introduced a policy that actually helps idiots like me who make mistakes. As a thank you to Ryanair i think i might buy a kitkat on the plane and leave my pack of snickers at home. I will however be taking my own sandwiches.

I may well be wrong but I don't think this is Ryanair being generous (perish the thought). Rather under distance selling regulations you have to be given the chance to cancel free of charge for up to 24hrs. I'm sure they'd rather allow you to make a change rather than risking you cancelling altogether.

Not true... Even a little bit. Well except for the but where you say you may be wrong ;)
    From the DSR:
    (2) Regulations 7 to 19(1) shall not apply to—
(a)contracts for the supply of food, beverages or other goods intended for everyday consumption supplied to the consumer’s residence or to his workplace by regular roundsmen; or
(b)contracts for the provision of accommodation, transport, catering or leisure services, where the supplier undertakes, when the contract is concluded, to provide these services on a specific date or within a specific period

More likely, Easyjet now offer this functionality and Ryanair are matching their service level so as not to lose customers.

Hmm, thats strange, as DSR is the reason given as to why British Airways allow free cancellations for up to 24h on otherwise non-cancelable tickets.

They're making it up, it's simply not true.
