free photoshop type software?

Hi, was wondering if anyone could help. New to the photo editing game so was wondering if anyone could recommend a free photoshop style editing suite?

    Sounds like you're looking for the GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulation Program)

    It's originally written for Linux, but...

    As you're a beginner, I'd suggest the simpler but more than capable Paint.NET to start you off.

    Also try the free Serif PhotoPlus 7 (download from lower down this list). G
