ahh sorry!, in London, and financial related course (e.g. overview of stockexchange), i'm a student going back in september
don't mind, full time, part time evening, anything!0 -
should have maybe got on it earlier and applied to the big financial institutes ie Morgan Stanley, DB etc - they're v popular so have to apply by Marchish but maybe something to think about for next year.0

lol, yeh well i tried to apply for interships but couldn't get one at the big companies, thats why i want a summer course just so i can say i didn't waste my time this summer (for when i apply to graduate jobs this Sept for next year)0

Well as long as you do some work and can apply the team skills etc that you learn/use anything should look ok. An actual job/work will be as beneficial to your CV as another course and will earn you money.0

agreed - i think a sort of summer school class type-thing will have already started by now - we are into July after all. Go for any sort of work with numbers and computers! I'd say it looks a bit better doing applied work than a theoretical summer school course where you don't get to use the 'skills' learnt.
Also you'll save money working rather than spend it on education!

Actually the closing deadlines are end of January for most of the IBs, some are in December. The earlier you apply the better. Intern applications generally open up in September/October time for the following year.Blacksheep1979 wrote: »should have maybe got on it earlier and applied to the big financial institutes ie Morgan Stanley, DB etc - they're v popular so have to apply by Marchish0 -
Try the big financial recruitment agencies. Reed, Hays, Adecco... etc.barginboyrob wrote: »lol, yeh well i tried to apply for interships but couldn't get one at the big companies, thats why i want a summer course just so i can say i didn't waste my time this summer (for when i apply to graduate jobs this Sept for next year)
Reed have recently placed me at one of the big banks, I had the same problem finding an internship, got to selection centres with both LTSB and RBS, but LTSB I messed up (apparently I was aggressive in the group task and spoke over others, I call it enthusiasm), and RBS I missed the assessment centres and then failed to schedule an interview in time, was totally gutted.
I missed all the IB deadlines.
Certainly at this stage the best you can hope for is some temp work in a financial firm, get on the phone to the agencies, if your good on the phone you won't have a problem. Failing that you can try speculative applications, however saying that I called a good 20 London banks and had no luck, smaller local companies could be a better route.0
