Whilst I agree with foxy-stoat's advice, I do not agree that your premiums will (always) be affected. In my case declaring the increase had no affect on any quotes from any of the major providers.

I also never received a single personal injury call despite only ever dealing with the other parties insurers.

    Maybe I was lucky.

Maybe you slipped through the net.

My non fault accident increased my premium by around 10%, my second non fault claim the following year increased it again by around 7.5%....I hope people stop driving into the back of me soon !!!!

I am still receiving phone calls and texts urging me to claim for personal injury that I didn't have over 3 years ago and they advised me that my laptop that was on the back seat ( was driving a MR2 ) could of been broken in the 3 MPH impact....then they started banging on about the apparent government comfort payment that I should claim for....dear oh dear.
"Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!

Generally its the van with the overexited, gormless teenager, laughing stupidly while hanging out of the passenger window which has priority.

Do everyone a favour, use the road as it was designed, use both lanes and merge in turn...............

I'm not even going to get involved in the whole "zip merging" thing as it always turns into an online squabble.

I'll be as objective as possible by quoting advice from the highway code which is relevant in your situation:

The overview text of "General rules, techniques and advice for all drivers and riders" puts it very nicely: "The rules in The Highway Code do not give you the right of way in any circumstance, but they advise you when you should give way to others. Always give way if it can help to avoid an incident."

Rule 147: "Be considerate. Be careful of and considerate towards all types of road users, especially those requiring extra care (see Rule 204). You should
    • try to be understanding if other road users cause problems; they may be inexperienced or not know the area well
    • be patient; remember that anyone can make a mistake"

Rule 168: "Being overtaken. If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass. Speeding up or driving unpredictably while someone is overtaking you is dangerous. Drop back to maintain a two-second gap if someone overtakes and pulls into the gap in front of you."

The advanced driver, the defensive driver, will always recognise when an incident or confrontation is about to occur and will be prepared to back off it will prevent a collision, regardless of opinions of priority or "blame". It's no good lying in your hospital bed in traction and pain, protesting "but I was in the right!"

    Hope this helps :A

They speeded the traffic flow, reduced driver tension and generally improved things with a simple 'merge in turn' sign as lines merged just off a roundabout on my journey to work.

The problem is people see the vehicles on the right pushing in.

These people are wrong and are therefore bad drivers.

Merge in turn and dont get defensive cos im coming in, in accordance with the road signage. All the revving in the world aint gonna stop me and I dont pay my insurance so good luck to you if you wanna try it.

One prat playing pushy-shovey causes irritation.
Two prats playing pushy-shovey cause collisions.

Spot on, it's this idea/attitude of "queuing" and women (im sorry but it's true) are most certainly the worst for this attitude and also the most aggressive at trying to defend the space in front of their car.

I had an incident last week on a 40mph dual carriageway where I pulled out (changed lane) to overtake a car that was turning left. I stayed out in the RH lane because the road was about to merge in just under 200 metres. I line up to merge in behind the car on my front/left and JUST as we get to the merge point some silly cow in a tiny red hatchback is gunning it up to the back of said car to stop me merging..... I sound the horn, the driver in front has seen what's going on, he hits the brakes and lets me in front, I give a "thanks" wave, a thumbs up and off we go.

I don't know what it is with some people, they see someone in the RH lane and they think "he/she is jumping the queue!!!".

In the above incident, i'm 90% certain i've encountered the same person doing exactly the same thing before and there's also a young lady in an Audi TT, who on that same stretch of road, will drive all the way (around 800 metres) down the middle of the two lanes to block people who are actually just turning right to cross the central res.

But i wasn't playing, this is my point. I happily let another driver merge without a bother in the world. The other driver noticed my generosity and floored it to squeeze in. when he realised there was a central divider he swerved to cut in. If i had seen him before it being too late id have stopped but you just cannot legislate for every prat and wolly behind a wheel who is willing to pull manoeuvres like that to get a couple of cars in front.
