Car insurance for single mom of 2 unemployed

Thanks for all your replies guys. If I take the insurance out in my own name and put her as a named driver, she will be in the same position again, no NCD in her name, however with my over 11 years NCD, the costs will be very low. Don't think thats the best way forward is it? Is it even legal? I live at a different address as well. I will reduce the costs for her, but will have all of the risk and she gets no NCD as a result.
I don't think i can use homemaker on there, she is on benefits, and she is 29. Just trying to juggle around with the best options right now.
I tried confused.com to get some quotes a few days ago, only once I found a quote falling under £1000 for one of the telemetrics box services. This was obviously for a prospective car. I have not been able to see the same results for any other smaller or larger cars now. Going directly to the website of insurethebox/ drivelikeagirl who were the cheapest at that lucky time is now over £4000. Its all a bit bizzare. I cant see any quotes coming close to that now. Would have jumped on it if I had the car already but I am still looking for a car.
Thanks for the tip about co-op, will give it a try.
Are there any specialist brokers out there that I can approach? Where to find them?0 -
That is called fronting and the insurance will be voided if they find out and will have to be declared by you forever, it may mean you will not get insurance from mainstream insurers in future - don't do it.
Having you as a named driver may reduce her premium.0 -

If she claims benefits then she is unemployed. Job seekers, Income support or whatever its called now.
No, it depends on what she claims, and what employment she is actively seeking. There is no definition of unemployed, if she's a stay at home mum, that's exactly what she is. Her income source is not important. If she is claiming jobseekers and actively seeking employment, she's (probably) going to be unemployed, unless she has a temporary job.0 -
A broker went into detail when explaining to be that unemployed on their forms meant either of those benefits. Tax credits etc didnt apply. But Job seekers and ncome support would mean unemployed.
They wouldnt accept home maker or housewife if claiming either of those benefits. If a partner worked and they got tax credits etc then that would be fine.
Different insurers will have their own rules though.
5abi are you using your 11 years no claims on a car already? If you are then you cannot use those on another car.
Worst case...
If they make a claim its likely to get declined then you will also have insurance issues after declaring having a policy cancelled for insurance fraud.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Exactly what I said. As you found, one broker you dealt with while "unemployed", their set of rules for their forms. Not even an insurer, just one individual broker, and you don't even say if you managed to get your status an something other than unemployed in the end.0 -
I wasnt unemployed at the time. I was off work but on sick pay. Not in receipt of any benefits.
It was just me being cautious when they asked about my job. I didnt want to risk them saying you were not working when taking out the policy.
Lots of things i used to take for granted i now mention to be extra safe. My towbar is one.
For years i was told no need to inform them. Then a few said they will make a note just in case and now its actually listed on my documents.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Whereas I don't as my insurance specifically covers towing, so if the decide to void my insurance as the car has a tow bar, I'd be speaking to the FOS.0
