Anyone Know How To Restore Finish On Stag Minstrel Furniture

Hi. Does anyone know how to restore the finish on Stag Minstrel furniture? I think it must be some sort of lacquer finish - dark brown, soft sheen. I've got 2 bedside tables where the finish is 'crazed' ie. has masses of fine cracks and also some minor chips. I tried cellulose thinners which had no effect. Any advice would be much appreciated as it seems a shame to throw them away.

Depending on the condition you could try Balds Balsam,it restored a very badly treated victorian bannister.I also used it on a french polished table that was water marked it came up great. You have to treat it regularly. It's just a wipe on liquid that feeds the wood and the difference from the first use is tremendous. You can get it at Lakeland in two shades one for dark/redwoods the other for light woods costs £12.99.
  • Thanks, Mrs T, will check that out.

My mums have done the same. She only mentioned on Sunday she was going to sort them out. I'll ask her what she'll be doing, but I got the impression that it was sanding/relacquer effort.
  • Thanks, ScoobieGirl (my thanks button seems to have disappeared for some reason). Would be interested to know what your mum does and how it turns out.
