If OP's child is not in full time education once he turns 16 she won't be entitled to CB or CTC anyway, so he will need to claim ESA instead.

Surprised it took only 3 months for daughter to be put in the Support Group Chris. In our area it is taking up to a year for assessment. Even in very obvious severe cases of severe disablement from birth.

Not as surprised as we were !it took 13 weeks from my 1st phone call to start the claim to the letter saying she was in the support group.
I was expecting her to need some sort of assessment but was relieved when it didn't come to that.

You're placed into a group after 13 weeks. I had to wait around 4.5 months to be placed in the support group.

The supporting evidence was very comprehensive.

Sorry, I meant "you" in general.

In my case, it took them 10 days to send the ESA50, 2 months to then contact my GP and then a further 4 weeks to make their decision.

I must have got them on a good day !

The paperwork arrived within a week and they had told me when I made the initial phone call to get a sick note from the GP who supplied her with a 3 month one so by the time it arrived we already had the note ready to return.
We had a letter just before wk 12 requesting a further sick note which we got [3 month one again] then a week later the letter came saying she was in the support group.

My daughter was due to apply for PIP as she turned 16 in May, but last week we phoned DWP as we had not received any correspondence from them. They informed us a decision has been taken by DWP that DLA awards for children turning 16 have been extended until the child turns 17 years old and they will contact us in 2015. They have also confirmed this in writing to us. I believe it is due to the backlog of PIP applications.

My dd turned 17 I April- she does have an indefinite award so maybe that's why we haven't heard anything about transferring to pip.
